Explore the untouched highlands of Eastern Uganda on this immersive 5-day Mount Elgon trek, a rewarding journey to the summit of Wagagai Peak (4,321m)—the second-highest mountain in Uganda and one of East Africa’s largest extinct volcanic massifs. With its vast crater, unique plant life, cascading waterfalls, and relative solitude, Mount Elgon offers a peaceful alternative to more crowded trekking circuits.
Your path through the Bushiyi Trail unfolds across a landscape of lush montane forests, Afro-alpine moorlands, and culturally rich foothill communities, all while supported by professional guides, porters, and a cook. The route allows time for acclimatization, wildlife spotting, cultural immersion, and scenic rest—making it perfect for travelers seeking both challenge and connection to nature.

Along the way, enjoy expansive views of rural Uganda, tea and sugar plantations, and the rising outline of Mount Elgon in the distance.
Arrive in the serene village of Bushiyi, where you’ll check in at the peaceful Riverine Resort, located near the forest edge. The trek begins with a steady climb through pristine montane forest, alive with birdsong, butterflies, and endemic plants. You’ll stop near Shilonko River Camp (2,900m) for a hot lunch and hydration, before continuing through mossy trails toward Dubi Camp (3,563m), perched in the upper montane zone.
Arrive in time to settle into your campsite, surrounded by bamboo groves and sweeping valley views. After dinner, enjoy storytelling with your guide or gaze at the stars from your tent.

By late morning, you’ll stand atop Wagagai Peak (4,321m)—Mount Elgon’s highest point—offering panoramic views over the caldera, Kenyan highlands, and possibly Lake Turkana on a clear day. Pause for a packed lunch and celebration photos before beginning your descent back to Dubi Camp.
Enjoy a relaxing evening with hot soup, warm dinner, and time to reflect on your achievement.
