Katavi has a hot, seasonal climate shaped by long dry months and dramatic wet cycles.

• Night: 15°C – 22°C

Rainfall

• Rainy season: November – April
• Dry season: May – October (very pronounced and excellent for wildlife)

During the dry season, rivers shrink into pools, drawing massive concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and predators.

Getting There

By Air

The easiest and most common access:

• Scheduled and charter flights from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Zanzibar, or Ruaha.
• Land at Mpanda Airstrip, followed by a scenic drive to the park.

By Road

• Very long and challenging drives from Arusha or Dar es Salaam
• Only suitable for experienced travelers or overland expeditions
